The following recipe is a quick, easy, and delicious way to incorporate essential oils in your cooking. There are much debate and misinformation regarding the safety of the ingestion of essential oils. The consensus is that ingesting essential oils is safe, under the right conditions. It is recommended that you seek the counsel of a medical practitioner or trained aromatherapist before attempting to dose orally with oils. The quality of the oil (therapeutic grade preferably) must be taken into account, as well as the manufacturer, and the oil’s chemical constituents. An essential oil like lemon may be harsher on the throat and stomach than lavender, for example.
Another factor to consider is the condition in which you are treating and the severity of symptoms. If your condition requires heavy dosing, the oral route may be the best method for treatment. Ingesting essential oils can be rewarding when they are used properly. It is always important to dilute essential oils when consuming them. Keeping in mind that oil and water aren’t soluble, in order to dilute essential oils it is best to use something like honey. This recipe includes honey, so you can be assured that the oils are well blended for safety.
When it comes to choosing an essential oil for these energy balls, you can be creative. Consider what flavors would pair well together. Some suggestions are three drops tangerine, two drops grapefruit, four drops basil and one drop lemon, four drops lavender and one drop lemon, four drops cinnamon, two drops nutmeg, two drops clove, or four drops peppermint oil. Two tablespoons of cocoa powder are optional to use in this recipe. Chocolate can make an appetizing pairing with tangerine or peppermint. Enjoy the experimentation!
