  • Dry Evaporation

This is the simple way of putting essential oil drops on a cotton ball or cloth and it evaporates into the air. For intense requirements, you can just sniff the cloth. The aroma spreads in the air by turning it fresh.

  • Steam

Essential oil drops can be added to a bowl of steaming water, which evaporates the oil with steam. It is a direct method used for spreading essential oil aroma into the air. It is used by many people during meditation. In the case of any health issue, you can take this steam directly and feel relaxed with the amazing results from essential oils. However, if you’re using it for kids, it should be done with the recommendation of a doctor.

Topical application of essential oils

Essential oils can be applied to the skin using different techniques. Essential oils are highly concentrated and require dilution for the appropriate usage. They can be blended with other oils and carrier oil to get the appropriate effects. In an easy sense, you require 2-3 drops of essential oil in one teaspoon of carrier oil to be used on a particular body portion. The body massage of adults require 1-2 drops in one teaspoon carrier oil and for infants, the ratio is 0.25% essential oils in a carrier oil.

Techniques for Topical Usage

  • Massaging

A few drops of the essential oil are added to a natural carrier oil to apply to the skin areas. The concentration of oils shouldn’t exceed 2% of the total solution for adults.

  • Compression

The essential oil is diluted in carrier oil or water and applied to the affected area. It could be done with cold or hot compression.

  • Bath water

A few drops of essential oils are added to bathing water for absorption through the skin. Essential oils are passed through the skin to get the full strength of essential oil. One part of a baking soda can be added to the mixture to get the best effects.

  • Gargle

Essential oil drops are added to water for gargling. Don’t swallow it and spit the water to get relieved from throat discomfort.
